Ludij Peden’s watercolours provide a graphic reminder of our early days, from the make-do constructions of the pioneers using whatever they could get their hands on to the graceful lines of the old Queenslanders with their prodigal use of what was then an unlimited supply of the best rainforest timbers. The old bush ballads in this book come from Ron Edwards’ massive eleven volume work Australian Folk Song, published in 1994. If this set is in your local library you will be able to find the tunes to the songs, and also learn their history. A lot of them were collected in Queensland and they provide a dramatic link back to our pioneering days.
