During summer, the Cairns area can become stiflingly hot and humid. There is also the ever-present danger of cyclones. The residences and other buildings must be built to withstand these climatic extremes while keeping the occupants as comfortable as possible. Note the caps on top of the building supports to prevent incursion by ants.
